Being a foreign student is one of the best experiences you will ever live in your life. Don’t let that experience turn into a nightmare because of all the settling in abroad process. It may seem simple but most students struggle finding a place, getting their documents in order, looking for the right information, also language could be a barrier. These are some of the things you face once you are already here and get you settled in Barcelona. We are here with some best tips to get you settled.

This is why we want you to prepare for what is about to come so you don’t have to deal with this.

Utilize this time to plan where to go on your next trip.

1. ACCOMMODATION ARRANGEMENT

There are two types of people in this world when it comes to finding a new place to live, the ones that prefer to visit what will be their flat/room before they decide to move in, and the ones that rather book a place before they arrive.

What you really need to know is, whether you prefer to visit apartments or book one in advance. It is important that you avoid hidden commissions and Online scams. Most importantly, make sure the place you choose has the option to make you a “padrón” (also called empadronamiento).

What is it? It is a census record and the way to verify or accredit your stay or residence in Spain. Trust us when we say you will need it later on if you intend to live in Spain for an extended period of time and you will also need it for a variety of administrative procedures. Procedures such as Applying for a NIE, Getting a health insurance card, Buying a vehicle, getting married, etc.

We want you to know this before you make a decision so important as choosing a place to live as there are places where the landlord won’t provide you with this document.

2. ON ARRIVAL PROCEDURE

Applying to a TIE on your arrival in Spain can be time-consuming and challenging for an international student. The timings of the Immigration offices in Barcelona are what they are. There is no choice but to present everything necessary in a timely manner and wait till your card arrives.

Our advice is don’t let this pending, as the process takes time and you will need them for sure. If you are one of those lucky people, the waiting won’t be too long.

3. RESIDENCY RENEWAL

If your idea is to stay in Barcelona for a little longer or you finished your studies and want to do another course, you need to know this.

To make an extension of your student visa in both cases it is mandatory that the next study program you do is equal or a higher level of study.

You won’t be able to do it in order to get your extension, so we recommend you to be well informed. Also, be sure of what you want to do and how long you would stay in Barcelona. Of course, there are some other ways to stay in Spain, but like with any other procedure it has its complexity.

Moving to Barcelona is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming if you don’t know where to look for a safe place to stay.

To make your life easier and hassle free, let us guide you and keep your experience from being the most amazing one! we’ve got you covered 😉
