Do you have trouble with how you manage study time while staying in Barcelona?

Barcelona’s vibrant nightlife, iconic shopping areas, and sunshine can tempt anybody away from their studies. While some fun and social activities should be part of the experience, it is essential to plan this around your studies.

You will make lifetime friends and create beautiful memories that stay forever, but the focus should be your studies and career. You should always create a balance between fun and work, that is why you have to manage study time and activities.

In this article we provide you with helpful tips to manage study time while in Barcelona and to help you better organize your time.

Proven tips to manage study time

Time management using a diary

While it might sound obvious, a diary is still your best friend. Diary management is not only noting deadlines and class times, but it should be a planning tool.

Having the date for a project or assignment is necessary, but you need to plan how you will spend your time on this during the days and weeks leading up to the deadline.

Take a few minutes every day to write down what you need to do each day to successfully complete the project on time. This could be in an old-fashioned paper diary or one of the many online diaries. Project management tools such as Trello or Asana are excellent for this and some are free for personal use.

Don’t procrastinate! Set a study goal for each day

Unfortunately having a diary and keeping track of all your tasks is not much use if you do not actually get the work done. Procrastination is one of the easiest rabbit holes to disappear into.  The following tested plan can come to the rescue.

Sometimes the most difficult is to start a task. There is always something else that needs to be done first. An effective way to control this is to make a contract with yourself. Promise yourself that you will work for 30 minutes and then you can go and do whatever else you wanted to do. Some people will do exactly that, but most will get involved in the work they are doing and go past the 30 minutes without even thinking about it.

This time should be fully focused on your studies and you should not allow for any distractions. If you think of something else that you quickly want to check, write it down on a notepad and do it when you are finished. Once it is written down your mind will be satisfied and the distraction will disappear.

Join study groups

Study groups can be a motivating factor for many students and collaboration is one of the necessary skills you will need to succeed in your career. On the other hand, study groups have the potential to develop into a social group.

That does not mean you cannot have some fun and general support from your group, but it will need to be managed very well. Decide beforehand how much time you want to devote to studies and how much time you have available for socializing.

Use the skills in your group and decide who the best person will be to manage your time; allow them to set the times and do not argue about it. This is another essential skill that will help you to become an exceptional employee with great prospects.

Keep the balance and enjoy your studies in Barcelona. It is the best of times and the memories will always shape your future.
